Smartketi started as a simple idea that quickly blossomed into a larger project. During the summer of 2014, Simona Adhikari and Sapana Adhikari, MD visited Manthali, Nepal. While Simona taught English at the local government school, Sapana volunteered at Tamakoshi Cooperative Hospital. Touched by the kindness and optimism of the people they met, Simona and Sapana decided to try to help this little village in whatever way they could. They went around asking local school teachers, students, hospital workers, shopkeepers and anyone else about types of projects that might be useful in Manthali. Overwhelmingly, people asked for two things. First, they asked for ways to generate income in their own villages, and second, they asked to learn to speak English better. Hence, smartketi was born.
